On the occasion of Irv Daubert, Ralph Rowland, and Florence Bryants 100th birthdays, as a fellow veteran and former Cheshire resident, I salute and thank these three WW II veterans for their demonstrated dedication to our great country and for their loyal and faithful service to the Army Air Corps, U.S. Navy Seabees, and the Army Nurse Corps. They are shining examples of what Tom Brokaw referred to as the Greatest Generation. They served their country with distinction, came home, became role models for the youth of our great country, and provided inspiration for all within their community.

I never met 1st Lieutenant Bryant, did not know Chief Petty Officer Rowland very well, but I reiterate what I’ve said before about Staff Sergeant Daubert: Irv was my scoutmaster back in the 1950s. I contend that his leadership was instrumental in preparing me for and guiding me through the challenges of growing up and helped me prepare for the responsibilities I would go on to be entrusted with as an officer of Marines.

As we all confront and deal with the COVID 19 pandemic, being able to pause, recognize and pay tribute to these three Great Americans, I’m sure, will be the highlight of everyone’s week. As they celebrate their 100th birthdays, let us all, in their names, rededicate ourselves to the ideals this Great Country stands for, and for which they served and fought for.

May God Bless each of them, and may God continue to Bless this Great Country we call America.

Happy Birthday and Semper Fi
